A short film by Colin Tennant giving an insight into my working practice as a potter.

Background

Clare graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2000 with a BA(Hons) in Ceramics, and formed We Make Pots in 2004 with her husband Simon.

Following a period of time in Ayrshire, family life brought Clare back to her home of Kirkpatrick Durham where she has lived and worked since 2008.

Philosophy

Clare’s aim is to make useful pots that are well crafted and a pleasure to use. Bowls, cups, mugs and jugs are the foundation of her practice and provide infinite possibilities in exploring clarity of form and functionality.

Clare’s recent work has focused on creating small groups of pots, all different but united with a balanced set of glazes. The use of matt and shiny surfaces and subtle colour changes created through layering of the glazes and sometimes multiple firings has led Clare to explore decoration quietly evocative of local landscapes.
